So, Micheal Bays reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise continues apace.
The latest rumors, surrounding what is turning out to be a troubled production before its even started shooting, are that Megan Fox has been cast as April O’Neil, the spunky reporter who befriends the turtles and stars alongside them in most adaptions.
So why is everyone going crazy about this? I’ve seen nothing but rage on the internet about this rumor, which to be honest doesn’t bother me. At this point Bay is the nerd worlds antichrist. If he were to assemble the dream team of the original Ghostbusters crew for a reboot of that franchise and somehow not make half of them crazy, we would still complain about how the film has been ruined before we see it. Yes, he did preside over one of the worst film franchises of late. Hes catered to the low brow audience and for those years lowered the collective standard of cinema. But it takes real skill to do that and real passion. His films were awful and messy and indulgent, but you can’t replicate them. Just look at those that tried.
Now don’t take the above as praise. He makes me angry a lot of the time, even if it looks like he wants to go back to making the type of films that made him famous in the first place. I just feel that we shouldn’t get ourselves in a collective huff when not a single shot of the film has been made yet.
When the film comes out, then we can act like smug assholes.
