Life In Plastic: Why Figure Photos of the Day?

Subconscious-Blogsize

Hi, I’m the Toy Guy here.  I’ll bring you toy news, opinion, reviews, and more photography than you can shake a stick at!

So, why all the photos?  Well, I’ve always enjoyed taking pictures of stuff, and toy photography is a Thing That Exists – just go look on flickr at people like Ed Speir IV to see what I mean.  Poe Ghostal’s Points of Articulation is one of the best toy collecting blogs out there, and a regular feature he runs is Pic of the Day.  The existence of that feature inspired me to turn my casual, blurry toy photos into something good, which then gave me something constructive to do with my collection, which has fought off collector’s malaise.  Toy photography has also been used by other sites, such as Action Figure Fury’s weekly toy photo contest, which is a blast ( Vote for my stuff)!  And it’s fun and awesome.  The Figure Photo of the Day is partly a tribute to all of this awesome work, partly a means to show off, and partly another way to spread toy photography around!

I am going to open it to outside submissions soon, once I decide whether it should be done via e-mail or flickr, primarily, or a bit of both!  But right now as Nerditis is new, I’m more than willing to fill the gap myself until we build up sufficient traffic.  Hopefully, it will gain traction and build a life of its own, and no longer seem like such a direct copycat experiment 🙂

Toy Photography is another way to do something with your collection – to play with your toys, to appreciate them, and to enjoy them.  I hope that this will continue to be a regular part of Nerditis, along with the articles, reviews, and humor!

But in the meantime, why not enjoy a few other links?

  1. Makes me think. I don’t have many figurines, but some that I have and would totally look good are the Star Wars Lego models for X Wing and Tie Advanced, complete with minifigs and ball containers (Yavin and the Death Star). I lack, however, a good camera to take photos. I don’t think a simple compact digital camera would be any good…
