Geek media summary: Kevin Smith’s ‘Final film’, Christian Bale is cold and more news on the S.H.I.E.L.D. tv show

Hi and welcome to geek media summary, in which I try to cram as many little bits of news into one post that wouldn’t be worth posting on their own.

Starting with the big news, Joss Whedon has released a few hints about the new S.H.I.E.D. pilot that is being produced. Its finished shooting. On the carpet of the Steamys, he said (its an award show apparently)

“I’m excited about the show because it’s a very hopeful show,” he said. “It’s not about murder, and it’s not about crime, and it’s not people looking into their own belly buttons. It’s about people who are trying to help each other, and that’s one of the things I loved about comic books. They had costumes and the villains were cool [but] they stood for something, and I like doing a show that does that.”

When asked about returning characters, he pretty much just said that there needs to be a focus on characters created for the show, which can mean anything in regards to cameos from characters introduced in the Avengers film like Maria Hill and Agent Coulson.

Next up, Christian Bale is in talks to star in a film about an ill fated expedition to climb Mount Everest which killed 8 people. Should we be bracing for stories about him falling to his death whilst researching the role? Or should we just take all of his future films to be the continuing tales of the Bruce Wayne, in a wishful attempt to make a Batman Inc film a reality?

Last of all, and in news that will shock nobody, Kevin Smith got stoned and went on record saying he wants to make Clerks 3 a play, a webseries-no wait- an online novel!. Whilst I’m usually supporting of anyone trying new things, especially Smith, these ideas smack more of trying to cut the costs of making a film, whilst still getting the benefits of making money from your captive audience. I will wait and see about this, or if its just Smith trying to get attention for his new projects. Either way, I would only have so much tolerance for 150 pages of stoner humor.
