Welcome to Your Daily Nerd Thing. Blizzard anounced a lot of new things at Blizzcon this year including the next Hearthstone expansion, Rastakhan’s Rumble. The story of this expansion will take players to the Gurubashi Arena in Stranglethorn Vale for a once in a generation battle royale between the champions of various troll Loa.
I didn’t start playing Hearthstone right away. But when I did I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. I enjoyed the first few expansions consistently. The first one to throw me off was Mean Streets of Gadgetzan. A gangster themed expansion? It seemed like an odd choice but I still liked the gameplay mechanics it introduced. However if you have ever been to Gadgetzan in World of Warcraft you will notice if does not actually have any streets. And then came the Un’Goro and Knights of the Frozen Throne expansions and I enjoyed both of them and the cards and mechanics they brought with them. But then it started releasing one expansion after another that I just did not care for. Kobolds & Catacombs, The Witchwood, and The Boomsday Project each had a few decent cards but for the most part none of them made me eager to keep playing so I played less and less often.
And now comes Rastakhan’s Rumble and for the first time in a long time I am genuinely excited to play Hearthstone again. I don’t know what it is exactly. Maybe its the luchador inspiration that seems to have gone into some of the characters or there is just an energy to it already that I did not feel with the others. And I already like some of the cards that are being previewed. So I am ready to take part in this rumble. Also I really hope that gnome flying through the air to body slam someone on the wallpaper is an actual card character.
