Your Daily Nerd Thing: The Last of the Game of Thrones Hot Takes

Welcome to Your Daily Nerd Thing where every weekday we bring you a different nerdy thing we found on the internet. Game of Thrones on HBO came to an end earlier this year. A lot of people had feelings about this when it happened.

When the show ended there were a lot of people lining up to do hot takes in articles and videos about why the final season was terrible. And they were right to because it was terrible for so many reasons. But until now there was one voice we were missing in that discussion, Youtuber Lindsay Ellis.

Lindsay Ellis has done a lot of great videos over the years and you should take the time to watch all of them. Her series The Whole Plate on the Transformers movies is an experience. Anyway Lindsay covers a lot of ground other people have touched on but she does such a great job taking on every argument people have tried to make to justify the events of Game of Thrones final season.

In the end Lindsay Ellis is right, this ending kind of kills my desire to watch the series again. I suppose I could try to give my own hot take on the series but Lindsay and others have already covered most of what I would say. The Game of Thrones Final Season Pitch Meeting is another one of my favorites and a previous Daily Nerd Thing.

Although I could say something about David Benioff and D.B. Weiss I have not noticed anyone else saying. Without the benefit of the narrative and character work George R.R. Martin already did for them Benioff and Weiss are not nearly as talented at they are mythologized to be. We will see in the coming years if they can actually produce something of worth on their own or if they are just another pair of white men who managed to fail upwards.
